Being a huge fan of the 80′s (a teen at the time) I’ve always enjoyed the hair metal music from the era. One of my favorite bands was, and still is, Motley Crue. It’s been interesting, to say the least, to see them perform then and now. Not much has changed…they still put on a kick ass show!
This summer I decided to get back to my book~worming days of the past, and picked up Nikki Sixx’s “This Is Gonna Hurt” on a whim. It was a link on my Amazon page and I had a gift certificate. Win win. Well, I’m more then happy I chose it. Not only is it an interesting biography but a book full of dark and brooding photography. The kind that makes you stop and look whether you want to or not. My BA was in photography and one of my favorites was Joel-Peter Witkin. Nikki’s work has a taste of Joel along with so much more. The combination of reading about his surreal life along with his newfound love of photography was a hit with me!
Since then I have followed his tumblr page… I recommend you check it out. Yet another awesome bookmark to add to my creative archives! Enjoi~ LP
…a creative wave that is! I’m on a roll here filling up sketch book pages, buying new art supplies and books. Headed to the art store on Monday to pick up the last of the goods I need to pull this little creative project(s) I have brewing!
A HUGE thank you to my hubby who has been my inspiration, best friend, best lover and more…life wouldn’t be possible without you~
Sooo….in the next month or so I’m starting a bit-o-something and changing the “links” page to my new project. I’m not 100% sure of the exact format and how I want to publish it online. It will all be hand done….NO computer (ahhhh), just a girl with a full art-bin and camera in hand! Be sure to check back this fall ![]()

It’s been quite awhile since I posted the latest & greatest inspiration. Sorry but reality has been holding me back a bit! Life has been a roller coaster of up, down and all arounds this year so I’m not sure where to begin and where to end. So for now, please hold tight as I place laurendesigns on hold. Pause. Mute. Stop (but not permanently). Whatever you’d like to call it. I’ll be back soon to post some more inspiration and fun goodies. More to write later…LP
Okay, I’m waaaay overdue for a post, I know (no decent excuses this time). There has been way too much going on in laurendesigns world so the website and blog have taken a nap! Hang tight though as I have a few goody goodies in store…I promise~ until then I figured I’d share some good news! For our 7th wedding anniversary my husband purchased the two of us accommodations to attend High Cascade’s summer snowboard camp at Mt Hood in Oregon! I’ve been to a similar camp years ago when I learned to snowboard…it was in BC, aka Whistler/Blackcomb Mountain. 10 years later I’m back at it again but this time I’m going to go ALL out! Well, as all out as my 36 year old body can take! I’m really excited since last time I went I could barely ride…this time I’m ready to hit the jumps and boxes, along with the skateboard park! In highschool I was “that skater chick” (and was also known as a “good girl rider”) so I have a decent handle on riding a skateboard. In anticipation of riding the bowls there I even bought myself a retro board to cruise around on… I took a screen cap so take a gander! It’s not the OSO Sylvia Ji Arbor model I adore but close enough to bang around on and not be afraid of ruining the graphics!
Oh, and I picked up a new pair of bright *orange*skate sneaks too…have to have it all or I’ll look like an adult LOL. Go big or go ho,me baby! Wait, I am going to “adult camp” …but… I’d still LOVE to be mistaken for a 15 year old highschool skate rat. We’ll see what happens, I’ll be sure to let you know
