This summer I decided to get back to my book~worming days of the past, and picked up Nikki Sixx’s “This Is Gonna Hurt” on a whim. It was a link on my Amazon page and I had a gift certificate. Win win. Well, I’m more then happy I chose it. Not only is it an interesting biography but a book full of dark and brooding photography. The kind that makes you stop and look whether you want to or not. My BA was in photography and one of my favorites was Joel-Peter Witkin. Nikki’s work has a taste of Joel along with so much more. The combination of reading about his surreal life along with his newfound love of photography was a hit with me!

Since then I have followed his tumblr page… I recommend you check it out. Yet another awesome bookmark to add to my creative archives! Enjoi~ LP

Sooo….in the next month or so I’m starting a bit-o-something and changing the “links” page to my new project. I’m not 100% sure of the exact format and how I want to publish it online. It will all be hand done….NO computer (ahhhh), just a girl with a full art-bin and camera in hand! Be sure to check back this fall

This makes the total so far: 3 books, 7 logos published! It’s been quite an honor as Logo Lounge’s series attract thousands and thousands of entries. It’s nice to see small little firms like laurendesigns get some attention! Finally

Whether you call it “cool design,” “whimsical elegance,” or our favorite — “decadently over-the-top” – we’re all about design at The Roxbury and how it makes you feel. We designed our first whimsical suite, “The Shagadellic,” not knowing how people would respond to a lot of orange and yellow and a furry zebra-print couch. Will it be too bright? Will they think it’s silly? Will it give them a headache? Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?

Well, que sera sera, the response has been so overwhelming that it gave us the guts to design TWO major expansions around fun, (yet elegant – one must never forget elegance) “theme” rooms” inspired by a famous TV series, film or cartoon of the 1960’s or 70’s. The key word here is “inspired by.” We did not wish to recreate sets or exact replicas of the shows. We just allowed ourselves to get lost in the colors and textures and moods and whimsy of the shows. And we admit, yes, some of it had to do with fantasizing about what it would be like to be inside a genie’s bottle or on top of a cloud or in a cartoon space home.” —from their website

We’ll be staying there in a few weeks. We cant decide on “The Wizard’s Emeralds” or “The Shagadellic”! Last year we stayed in the “Partridge Nest”! It’s truly a touch choice for an artist like me….decisions, decisions, decisions and ALL of them are equally as wonderful and creative as the next! It’s extremely difficult to pick which room!! It’s a great sensation to have a wonderful place to stay *along with* incredible mountains to ride nearby. Hmmmm, maybe my next business venture?!
